lost tooth

we were about to tie Jadon's upper outer left incisor to yank it out when it just fell out onto Jadon's tongue on its own!  ka-ching!  mo-money, mo-money, mo-money!  (my how the "tooth fairy's" rates -- he knows it's just Mommy & me -- have been affected by inflation!)

While kissing Jadon to bed, I quietly asked him, "Do you like it when Daddy kisses you?"

Jadon replied, "Yes."

"But how about if I kiss you in front of your friends?"  [he's tended to rush off to class when I drop him off for school]

"I don't care.  I just love you."

 

 

Tomorrow morning, I will test my son's words!  ;)

skating backwards!

This past Wednesday was the first time Jadon started ice-skating backwards, & that after only Mommy verbally explained how to do so the day before (unfortunately he didn't have the patience to watch it demonstrated for him)!

Today (7/26) was the first time Jadon ever ate a (quite sizable) WHOLE fish burrito by himself at La Costa, a restaurant we frequent nearby for its yummy grilled fish dishes & its discount cards.

in case i never entered this one in february, it is abundantly clear to us that jadon's Spanish quickly outstripped his anemic Chinese abilities early on after starting at Norton.not long after moving to nsaa,they were playing a number game at Chinese club, & the die rolled three. wanting to b the first call out the number in Chinese correctly, jadon darted up from his seat with his hand raised and yelled 'tres!!!' Wide-eyed with embarrassment, he immediately sat down with his 1/2-smiling mouth covered! /!que chistoso!/

today in karate, the sensei had said a few words to some of the class in Spanish, then went on to ask the whole class how many exercises (pushups?) they did. he went down the row with each one answering, 'six' 'seven' 'eight' 'nine'... then got to Jadon, who ('with perfect timing' the sensei recalled) said 'diez.' at once the whole class erupted in laughter. (we got this story later after the fact from 2 sources: the sensei himself & from a classmate's grandparent -- 'your son is so cute!'. how we wish we'd been there!)

(not so) happy memory!

Earlier today while the family was in the car, Jadon & Evangelina had a spat during which each had scratched the other.  Both were rebuked, called to apologize to the other, & encouraged to seek God in being kinder as a sibling.  Both were also told that they needed a swat on their bottoms for what they did, to underline what we explained as the seriousness of sin, but we also told Jadon (as Evanglina's attention turned elsewhere) that it was likely that we would let Evangelina's spanking "slide" because we weren't in a place to stop the car, & because she is so young, if we spanked her much later she would not be able to make the connection between the "crime" & the "punishment."  Realizing that he WOULD be receiving his spank when we arrived at our destination (in about 10 minutes), he murmured, "I wish I didn't have memory."

Today while we were going over his Chinese words, I asked Jadon to use the word 'jiao' (to call out) in a sentence, he said, 'Mi madre jiao!' So funny how the 'foreign languages section' of our brains can get mixed up!

We've been trying to teach Jadon to have good sportsmanship, to have a good attitude no matter what the outcome when he plays various games. One weekend we played soccer with some neighbor kids (Cole & Grace) such that we were on opposing teams. We ended up tying the game at 2-2 before we had to go in, & Jadon wasn't very happy at not winning. Later on, he & I played 1-on-1 soccer inside & he beat me badly. Afterward, I said to Jadon, 'See? I had a lot of fun even though I lost.' Without a pause, Jadon replied, 'Yeah, I had a lot of fun even though you lost too!'
