When I apologized to Jadon today for falsely accusing him of picking on Evangelina when he actually didn't, he very quickly hugged me & told me, 'I forgive you Daddy.' Shortly afterward, he added, 'No, I give you my heart.' I told him I was so happy that he gave me his heart because that also meant that he also forgave me, but I also told him to make sure he saved his heart for his wife. To that, he responded, 'It's OK, I have more.' :) :) :)

Jadon scored his first hat trick (3 goals in one game) yesterday with his U6 AYSO soccer team, 2 of them on his signature breakaways! (Though we aren't officially keeping records, the Little Monsters beat the Strikers 3-2!) The whole team has improved greatly, with teammates Parker (awesome assists, great footwork), Will (little guy strong on defense), Big Joe & Travis with big kicks, Ricky getting in on a lot of plays, & AJ.

Jadon licked his lips & said to me, 'My lips taste disgusting.' Of course I asked why. He responded as he pointed at me, 'Because of you!' (We had not long before been doing the swiveling 'kissing machine' together (rapidly alternating kissing each other's cheeks.) Apparently my summer sweaty grime isn't so delectable!

A few days into the new year when I picked Jadon up from school, he told me a little about someone in Mrs. Waggoner's (his teacher's) family (her mother?): 'Yeah, she was born in 1939...either 1939 or 1739...I forget.'

Yesterday when we were working an anniversary card for my (Sid's) parents, I directed Jadon to write, "Thank you for being married for 41 years." Jadon, hurrying to complete his work without looking at what I wrote out for him, wrote, "Thank you for geting mired." How funny (& true) how sticky & consuming marriage is (while at the same time being more freeing than nearly anything else I know)! I had him correct it of course, so now it reads, "thank you for being merreid for 41 years." What a goofball son we have!

Talking a Lot

Earlier today at Costco we were eating pizza at the outdoor area when we Jadon, as usual, started talking to the people sitting nearby, a couple with a baby in her infant carseat. They were quite friendly & commented how "charismatic" & "sociable" he was, & how those characteristics would help him in his life. He resonded, "You know what? My Mommy & Daddy say that I talk a lot." Needless to say, all of us laughed out loud together."

learning Chinese with Uncle Rich

Generally we've been quite amiss at teaching Jadon Chinese, but yesterday he spent a good amount of time learning to count in Chinese all the way to 100+ with Uncle Rich while they were throwing the ball back & forth. Tonight we went to 120 before going to bed, & it's wonderful to see on Jadon's face the "wheels turning" in his head as he's counting.

After church last night at Mariners where we learned about praying, fasting, & serving for Lent, we were talking in the car about sharing God's word with people (which Jadon did in a letter to Landrex our Compassion child -- Psalm 136:1 & John 15:12 as he recited them again in the car). We wanted Jadon to understand that God intends for us to share the gifts God gives us, to which he responded, 'Yeah, when you share God's word you get more grace.' ...our little pastor!

Yesterday in the car after his basketball game, Jadon spontaneously asked me with eyebrows raised, 'Hey Daddy, do my eyes look like fermatas?' (He's been learning this music symbol lately.)

jadon has been learning to whistle lately, & it mostly has been breathy faint tones... until last night in bed when he started letting out bona fide whistling tones!

Yesterday while we were in the Tustin area waiting for Mommy as she was picking up groceries for us, she came out of 99Ranch to our whistling & cat-calling, 'Hot Mama!' to which Jadon spontaneously added (in the same tone), 'That's the way the Spirit loves!'

jiggle, jiggle!

Today when our family was out roller blading we ventured out onto a quiet street where the pavement was bumpier than the sidewalks, & Jadon said, "It feels like ants in my shoes!"

It reminded me of the other weekend when we rode our scooters to the library & rode over some of the bumpy yellow plastic platforms designed for visually-impaired pedestrians near crosswalks, when Jadon said, "This makes me feel like I have to go pee!"

Last night, when we were reading the Bible (we've been covering stories from the book of Judges, specifically about Samson), Jadon asked the strangely thoughtful question: "What if the [Philistine] soldiers cut only one of Samson's hairs?" Mommy & I did a double-take on that one, & I can only hope I gave the right (ie: Biblical) answer!

Yesterday when Evangelina & i picked Jadon up from school, he told me that Kaitlin O. gave him Christmas gift. Evangelina was relatively quiet the whole time so far. A minute later he said, 'Daddy I feel like I want to kiss Kaitlin & marry her.' Evangelina (seeing Jadon's excitement?) began to squeal & jump with her own excitement. What funny timing!
